It can effect how you see yourself as opposed to how other people see you. It can even effect how you see other people, not as they truly are, but how you think of them based on your memories or expectations of them.
My best friend Susan came over yesterday and spent the day with us. Sometime during the day the conversation came up of hair color. Susan is a redhead. She's been a redhead since we first met in 7th grade, and she still is. But she actually isn't. She started talking about how, as she is getting older, her hair is turning brown. So I start looking at her hair, and she's right. It still has a reddish cast to it, but I'm not sure anyone would actually call it red. Except me. Because it's red. It has to be. Because that's part of who Susan is to me. It's not that it's an important feature so much as it's just part of the picture I have of her in my mind. Short, great chest, big brown eyes, and red hair.
Except it's not red anymore; not really. Such a strange thing.
